Decentralized finance platforms suffered $92 million in losses to hackers in April 2025, a 124% surge from March’s $41 million thefts, according to blockchain security firm Immunefi. The attacks exclusively targeted DeFi protocols, sparing centralized exchanges.

UPCX bore the brunt with a single $70 million exploit, while KiloEx lost $7.5 million before the attacker unexpectedly returned the funds. Fifteen distinct platforms were compromised during the month, underscoring persistent vulnerabilities in permissionless finance systems.

Immunefi, which safeguards $190 billion in digital assets, highlighted the concentrated risk in DeFi’s open architecture. The April heist continues 2025’s troubling trajectory of smart contract exploits, though the KiloEx reimbursement offers rare respite.
